Why this site exists

Most advice in this area is written for America, or written to frighten you. Neither helps a UK household. American guides recommend products that are not sold here, voltages we do not use and risks we do not face. Fear-led sites exaggerate the state of the British grid to sell bunker kit.

We publish the missing alternative: UK-specific research, grounded in what the National Energy System Operator, the Met Office and gov.uk actually say, recommending kit that is genuinely sold and supported in the UK.

Our editorial standards

• Specifications are sourced, not guessed. Capacity, output, run time and safety figures come from the manufacturer's published data or an official body, and we link to where we found them.
• We only cover UK-available products. UK stock, UK plugs, UK pricing, UK safety rules.
• Safety content follows official guidance. Anything touching drinking water, heating or indoor fuel cites UK or WHO guidance, and carbon monoxide warnings are never edited down.
• No fear marketing. If the official winter outlook is comfortable, we say so, plainly. Preparedness is about storms and local faults, not doomsday.
• Commissions never decide a verdict. Some links earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Products do not pay to appear, and a worse product never outranks a better one because of a commission. Full detail: our affiliate disclosure.
• We correct mistakes. If we get something wrong, tell us via the contact page and we will fix the page and note the correction.

Who we are

HomeReadyPower is published by the Hitchens Group, a small independent UK publisher. We are not an electrician, a water engineer or an emergency service, and we do not pretend to be: where a subject needs professional input, we say so and point to the proper authority. What we bring is careful, honest product research with every claim checkable at source.
